SLO County offers wide flat country roads to narrow hairpin turns. Many roads in SLO County have special marked bike lanes for those students trying to get to class, for the cyclists who are out for a ten mile ride, or the family that is out for a Sunday bike ride.
The basic off-road bike has evolved over the past thirty years with new technology and innovation which in turn has created three main types of mountain biking: cross-country, free ride, and downhill. Mountain biking has recently become more popular in the last 10 years in San Luis Obispo County with new clubs forming and competitions such as the "Jeep, King of the Mountain Bike Race" which has been held in the city of San Luis Obispo for three years.
SLO County has every type of trail to offer for every level of mountain biker from flat wide fire roads to challenging singletrack. The Bob Jones Trail is a perfect family ride through beautiful landscape on easy fire road trail, or try riding the exhilirating singletrack trail of Shooters Trail from West Cuesta Ridge that over looks San Luis Obispo.

The Central Coast Concerned Mountain Bikers is a local mountain bike club that offers a network of sustainable trails to enjoy throughout the County as well as hosts special trail maintenance projects. CCCMB also offers very detailed mountain bike trail maps of West Cuesta Ridge, Morro Bay State Park, Lopez Lake, Irish Hills, and Montana de Oro State Park. The club welcomes all of its members and anyone who is not a member to come out and help with special projects.
Cal Poly has active bike clubs specializing in mountain biking, cycling, or both. The Wheelmen provide Cal Poly students the opportunity to experience a fun and healthy cycling lifestyle. They promote recreational riding, commuter transportation, collegiate cycling competition, and interaction with the greater cycling community and general community of San Luis Obispo. The Wheelmen help our members establish a lifelong love for cycling and involvement in furthering the cycling lifestyle and the cycling community.
There is always the option to take a bike tour with Central Coast Outdoors. They have numerous bike trips ranging from multi-day trips, full day trips, custom trips, to wine tasting bike trips.
