This annual festival takes place in the Arroyo Grande Village on the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend. The Strawberry Festival is San Luis Obispo County's largest free festival, bringing together thousands of visitors and residents to enjoy activities and entertainment; kiddy carnivals; the Strawberry Stampede; hundreds of art, craft and display booths; ethnic foods; and scrumptious strawberry treats of all kinds, as well as fresh strawberries by the box! The Paso Robles Festival of the Arts (FOTA) celebrates the visual, environmental and musical arts each Memorial Day Weekend in the Paso Robles City Park. The day starts with a Plein Air Quick-Draw and Auction, followed by a Fine Art Show, adult art seminars, a paint jam, hands-on art stations, live music, dance performances and other musical and visual surprises. Tolosa winemaker, Larry Brooks is ready to lead the bravest of cyclists on our 4th Annual Cote de Tolosa. This event is designed with dedicated sport and competitive cyclists in mind. We will start at 7:00 am at Tolosa Winery just south of downtown San Luis Obispo on Rt. 227. A catered lunch with wine will follow for all participants. Starting his profession at age 14, Chef McGlinchey moved to St. Louis and studied under a European trained Chef, Fio Antongnini. He worked at Fio's La Fourchette, the most highly acclaimed French fine dining restaurant in town. He eventually moved to Las Vegas where he headed up the gourmet Delmonico Room at the Riviera Hotel. Later, Chef Scott moved to Milwaukee, where he owned and operated the celebrated Heaven City Restaurant. For 15 years he teamed up with his wife, who ran the front of the house, while he and his young apprentices took Midwestern Cuisine to new heights. Chef McGlinchey is a dear friend of Eberle Winery, an excellent chef, and a great guy who will knock your socks off with his heart and talent in the kitchen. The Mission San Miguel Parish Center is the place to be on Tuesday nights. Located at 795 SLO Monterey Road in San Miguel (directly behind Mission San Miguel), this beautiful facility offers four 42" monitors, as well as a large screen for your viewing pleasure.
Doors open at 3:30 pm, early birds start at 5:30 pm. Twenty games include early birds, late birds and specials. The first pack is $15.00, second $10.00 and third only $5.00. There is also a FREE half-time game as well as door prizes. Food and soft drinks are always available, as well as complimentary coffee and cookies. The second Tuesday of the month a free meal is provided for all players.

Visit Los Osos Oaks State Reserve!

Watch for small signs, and a parking lot on the south side of Los Osos Valley Road, 1/2 mile east of South Bay Boulevard. An easy one-mile trail leads visitors under the low canopy of "Pygmy Oaks," dwarfed coast live oaks that are 600 to 800 years old. The leaf-covered trail winds among the trees' gnarled gray trunks, and the mushrooms, wild cucumbers, hollyleaf cherry, and other flora that exist in this shaded land where Chumash Indians once lived. Visitors should be wary of a prolific member of the reserve's plant community poison oak. Avoid its shiny "leaves of three" lining the trail in many places.

Trails following the edge of the coastal bluffs provide spectacular views of the tilted and twisted strata of the rocky shoreline and, in the distance, Morro Rock, and the Morro Bay sandspit.

Visit the Sweet Springs Nature Preserve!

The Morro Coast Audubon Society chapter manages this preserve. Trails lead among Monterey cypress and eucalyptus to two freshwater ponds, and around a salt marsh to the edge of Morro Bay. Birds are attracted to the variety of habitats in the preserve, and many shorebirds and ducks spend the winter in the adjoining bay.
The 24-acre preserve is the home of several threatened or endangered species, and no plants or animals may be collected there. The reintroduction of native species is a continuing goal of the Morro Coast Audubon Society.
