Templeton

Casa De CaballosDiscover the pleasant rural community of Templeton, which has retained much of its historical character. The town is surrounded by rich agricultural land, hilly ranges with clusters of oak trees with a heavy production of almonds, cherries, apples, and grains. Home to many horse ranches; team ropings and prestigious horse shows are held each year.

Templeton, California is one of the county's main wine-making regions and is a popular destination for Western eating establishments as well as fine California cuisine paired with local wines. Antique shops, gift stores, and other services round out the offerings of the very charming Main Street business district.

Upcoming Templeton Events & Activities

Templeton, CA is a small, rural town, but it is growing fast. It has added dwelling units faster since 1990 than any other community in the county (a 63% increase), with developments competing for prime land with vineyards.

Growth has not changed the fact that Templeton is a slice of the old west. Driving through the town you will still find businesses that serve the ranching and agriculture that supported the town after the railroad moved on (over a hundred years ago). The countryside rolls through hills and valleys covered with horse ranches and vineyards.

The vineyards are changing the area once again. The new businesses in town are catering more to the sophisticated tastes of urban visitors and newer residents. As an important part of the Paso Robles wine region, Templeton is emerging as a world class wine producer. An afternoon wine tasting tour of this beautiful rural area will convince you that agri-tourism is here to stay. Many of the wineries with the "Paso Robles" appellation are actually located in the unicorporated Templeton area - including Castoro, Peach Canyon, York Mountain (the oldes winery in the county) and Wild Horse.
