horseback riding oceano beachThe entrance to the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area, where adventures galore take place, is located just off Highway 1 in Grover Beach, California.  All-terrain off road vehicles can be rented to go four-wheel driving on the seemingly endless dunes or just experience driving directly on the Pacific Ocean coastline for miles.

Grover Beach CA activities and festivals attract the entire family, while several community parks are also available for fun, picnics and barbeques. A popular annual event is the Stone Soup Ethnic Music Faire held at the Ramona Garden Park. The event features the Dune Run Run, food and craft booths filled with homemade items and ethnic foods, and the sounds of Latin, African, Australian, Scottish, jazz and country-western music. Dancing in the streets is encouraged.

Diverse recreational opportunities are offered in and around Grover Beach. Activities like dune hiking, fishing, clamming, golfing, horseback riding, wine tasting and off-road vehicle riding are just some of the activities awaiting your arrival.

Upcoming Grover Beach Events & Activities (Including events in nearby Oceano)

Grover Beach, California is named after D. W. Grover who filed the papers in the San Luis Obispo County courthouse to found the community in 1887. The City of Grover occupied part of the El Pizmo Rancho land grant of Isaac Sparks, which Grover had purchased with the intent to build a town. So the story of Grover Beach was from the beginning part of the California story of the development of paradise, making a new place where people would thrive.

And thrive it did. From the mid-30's through the present, the town has grown steadily, changing its name to Grover Beach from the City of Grover City in 1992 to recognize its location on the ocean. It is a relatively young community in terms of its people, at least as compared with the other California Central Coast beach towns that have more retired residents.

The Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation is one of the OHV (off-highway vehicle) areas maintained by California state parks. It is a stunning geological formation of the finest coastal dunes remaining in California. Just register your vehicle at the park entrance and honor the fences erected to protect fragile areas, and you are free to explore off road driving on the dune and beach to your heart's content.

In the 30s and 40s there was a colony of free-thinkers living on the Dunes who called themselves ‘Dunites.' You can be a modern Dunite with your 4-wheeler freedom just by visiting Grover Beach, California!
