Bikers on the road to Huasna in Arroyo Grande California

The road to the old Huasna district is a favorite with bikers - a paved dead-end road about 9 miles long, with limited traffic and great scenery. It offers farms, ranches, woods, creeks, hill top vistas and more.

There are lots of shady stretches for sunny days. There are no services along the road, so bring your own water and snacks or picnic lunch.

Halcyon Temple In Arroyo Grande California

The beautiful and interesting "Halcyon Temple for the People" was built in 1923-1925 for a small local religious sect. It is also known as the "Blue Star Memorial Temple". Dimensions of the building are based on the numbers 7, 3, 4 and 12 (3+4=7, 3x4=12). There are 3 sides. Inside dimensions of the rounded-triangle building are 49 feet across (=7x7).

See what a genuine one-room school was really like. This school was in use in the nearby Huasna Valley for many years. Now it has been moved to downtown Arroyo Grande, across the footbridge from the main section of downtown.

Huasna School House in Arroyo Grande California

The Historic one-room school house was built in 1906 to serve the farms and ranches in the immediate area, known as Huasna. The little red school house is still in good repair, though closed to the public. It is a favorite goal & turnaround point for bikers enjoying the scenic and little-travelled paved 9 mile road to Huasna and back. (There are no services when biking this road.)

Caterpillar Thirty on Old Oak Park Road in Pismo Beach California

This abandoned classic Caterpillar Thirty is one of the many reasons to pull off by the side of the road in San Luis Obispo County and enjoy treasures you find. This classic tractor is just one find - what can you discover? (Note: The use of the Caterpillar yellow color probably indicates that this tractor was built sometime between 1931 - 1937. Also note the original wavy Caterpillar logo.)
