About Film and SLO County

SLO County Film Commission
Films

Welcome to San Luis Obispo County, California’s Natural Escape, rich with unique locations and very film friendly. A location scout’s playground that offers settings to match locations around the world and located between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

What is your production need today? May we offer you…The Sahara, Gobi Deserts, Morocco or Daytona Beach

Pismo Beach – Oceano Dunes Recreational Vehicle Area (The only legally derivable beach in California). This is where Cecil B. DeMille created the land of the Pharaohs for The Ten Commandments in 1923.

Kansas, Montana or Oklahoma

The flat and rolling open expanses in the North and Eastern portion of the county have doubled for several states, without snowy weather.

Viet Nam

Paramount’s “We Were Soldiers” found the double for their Viet Nam battle scenes in our coastal hills.

Country roads

Flat and straight, steep and winding, with or without ocean, vineyards, crops, rolling green hills or a light house.

Small towns

Main streets with grain elevators and a western feel or Norman Rockwell communities with parks, gazebos and neighborhoods of Victorian homes. California beach towns with funky bungalows or ostentatious beach homes. And add two California Missions and a handful of historic adobes.

Pristine coastal bluffs, harbors and coves

About 100 miles of coastline with variety from the vertical cliffs of Big Sur (doubled for Maui’s cliffs) to the flat beach and sand dunes in Pismo with protected harbors and working fishing piers in between.

And did we mention…

  • Military bases (two),
  • Lakes and reservoirs,
  • Vineyards (over 30,000 acres),
  • over 200 wineries,
  • Palatial county homes or
  • Cattle and horse ranches

The San Luis Obispo County Film Commission is ready to help you find the location you dreamt about.
